Staff  

At Good Shepherd, everyone is considered a minister.  We are all, as God’s children, called to serve Him and our neighbors.  Our full and part time paid staff are called by God to envision, teach, lead and support the mission of all our ministers and ministry leaders.  Feel free to contact any one of them if you have questions about the church.

 

David A. Tubbs, Pastor

David is a native of Birmingham, Alabama and earned his bachelors degree from Birmingham-Southern University in Political Science and History.  He attend seminary at Emory University in Atlanta and graduated with a Masters in Divinity in 1988.   He became an Ordained Elder in the UMC.  After serving as Associate Pastor at Canterbury United Methodist Church in Birmingham from 1989 to 1994, David was given the opportunity to build a new church in northwest Madison County.  At that time, the fledgling church was meeting in a rented storefront on Highway 72 in anticipation of building a facility of its own.

David and his wife, Elizabeth, live in the parsonage along with their two children, Julia Alton and Will.

Suzanne Katschke, Pastor

Born in Mississippi (an Air Force brat), Suzanne finally settled in Alabama in 1988.  She holds a Masters of Education degree and is a former teacher. She taught for Madison City Schools for ten years before answering her call into full-time ministry.  Suzanne joined the staff of Good Shepherd Church in June of 2005.

Suzanne and her husband, Michael, live with their daughter, Savannah, in Madison.

Eric Kohler, Pastor

Eric was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, and graduated from Auburn University in 1992 with a Bachelors degree in Product Design.  He moved to Florida in 1993, and worked for nine years in the video game industry, first as a Senior Artist for Electronic Arts in Orlando, working on John Madden NFL Football and NCAA Football.  Then in 1999, he resigned from there and founded The Ballistic Pixel Lab with four colleagues, to focus on the commercial and advertising industries.

In 2002 he left his career and began his Masters of Divinity at Asbury Theological Seminary in Orlando, as a certified candidate for the Evangelical Lutheran Church.  In 2005 he joined the United Methodist Church, and graduated from seminary in August 2007.

Eric and his wife, Shannon, have two young sons:  Ethan and Joshua.

Barry W. Kay, Music Director & Worship Leader

Barry holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Performance (Classical Guitar) from Birmingham-Southern University and an associates degree in Music Education from Wallace State Community College.  Before coming to Good Shepherd, Barry was the Youth Minister and Youth Choir Director at Colonial Hills United Methodist Church in San Antonio, Texas and Taylor Memorial United Methodist Church in Birmingham, AL.  While in Texas he also served as a member of and the arranger for the Praise Team.  Barry is an accomplished musician and vocalist and has recorded two CD's of original music.

Barry and his wife, Sharon, have one son, Tully, and live in Athens, Alabama.
