Good Shepherd is a church committed to serving its community. We encourage everyone to be involved in making a difference in other peoples' lives. We partner with a variety of organizations to increase the food security, storm protection, and affordable housing available to our neighbors. We hope to do all that we can to improve the lives of residents of Madison County and beyond.
Atlanta Bread
Pick up needed every Friday at 9:00 pm at 6275 University Dr NW #40, Huntsville, AL 35806. Then drop off at the church at 10:00 am the next morning. This bread is bagged and taken to needy families, used for the prison ministry team, the hospitality team and used to raise fund for missions. The sign up sheet is located on the bulletin board next to the Christian Cafe.
Build Team
The build team helps with wheel chair ramps and various other projects as needed. If you would like to join or gain more information about our build team please contact John at jtschmidt6@wowway.com
Cell Phones for Soldiers
We collect your old cell phones to support our soldiers. Please place them in the basket under the bench in the lobby marked "Cell Phones for Soldiers".
Food Pantry
Our food pantry helps our area become more food secure. We typically serve 45 families per month, providing non-perishable food to any family who resides in the following three zip codes (35757, 35749, 35613). Each household receives 2 bags of groceries once a month. These food items are donated by our congregation, Cub Scout Pack 201 who conduct a food drive each year, our Girl Scouts and our MMO as well as individuals and area schools who hear about the food pantry needs. This program is an invaluable service, making a difference in the lives of those families who are struggling to handle the basic need of providing something as simple and necessary as food on the table.

Homeless Ministry
Throughout the year we offer many opportunities to be involved with the homeless and the organizations that assist them. Below is a highlight of what we do and what you can do to be involved.
1. Visit and/or conduct bible studies with the individuals in the camps or rescue missions
2. Volunteer at First Stop or any of the rescue missions
3. Donate clothing, food, insect spray, big rat traps (Lowes and Home Depot have the larger traps), 3 man tents, tarps which are at least 20’ by 30’ or bigger.
4. Offer rides to the homeless to doctor visits, assist in ordering birth certificates, government cell phones and investigative work in any area which is often confusing and difficult.
5. Offer assistance in transporting items down to the camps such as mattresses and firewood among a few.
6. PRAY
Hospitality Prison Ministry
The Prison Ministry provides coffee and pastries to families waiting to see inmates at Limestone Correctional Facility. Contact Dave at 256-830-1433
Lunches for Learning
Lunches for Learning is a mission that we support in Honduras. Lunches for Learning, Inc. is a non-profit charitable foundation committed to breaking the cycle of poverty in rural Honduras by providing a lunch to elementary school children in Valle District. Simply put, we know if we can feed the children a basic lunch at school, they will stay in school. This is their pathway out of the cycle of poverty. Meal Ministry Team
Providing meals to those after a new baby is born, through sickness or a family death. Contact Clementine at clementinejohnson@yahoo.com to help out.
Medical Equipment Needed
Huntsville Hospital can use any medical equipment that you are able to donate (crutches, walkers, etc). This is especially needed now as more people are without health care coverage. Please drop off equipment in the church office.
New Futures
New Futures is a homeless shelter that allows families to remain together in a safe, family friendly environment. Good Shepherd partners with New Futures through financial donations to the facility, occasional yard work, donation of needed items (to include paper products, cleaning supplies, hygiene items, food items, as well as more permanent items as needed), providing rides to our church when requested, meeting additional needs as they arise, and assistance transitioning into personal homes. We believe that the power of relationship is what transforms lives; therefore we strive to establish ongoing relationships with the residents of New Futures. Red Cross Emergency Shelter
Our commitment to the community is that we open the shelter within 30 minutes of the start of a tornado watch and warning. Rotating teams help make this mission to our community possible. Salvation Army Mobile Food Truck
Servants needed to distribute food to the homeless 2-3 times a month. Sign up on the bulletin board next to the Christian Cafe or contact Chris at 256-837-8109 for more information.
